TIOT: Orly Rock-It

Try is on Tuesday is a weekly event where you pull an untried out of your stash and wear it! My current manicure for today is Orly Rock-It from their 2011 Mineral FX fall release. It was a HUGE lemming is mine when it was released but the in-store price was almost double of the regular price of Orlys. So I passed it up.  I bought this in a blog sale.

Day 25 Youtube tutorial Water Marble

The theme for today is to follow a Youtube nail art tutorial. I'm always watching Youtube tutorials and I don't always replicate them. It's always helpful to see different techniques and ways to do nail art. I think water marbling is the one I've watched the most because I'm trying to learn all the different variables to perfect this technique. In my years of polish addiction, I've only done THREE water marble manicures to date.

Born Pretty Store: Zipper Water Decals

I have for review today zipper water decals from Born Pretty Store.  When I did my fabric nails, I was looking for a good zipper design and these would work perfectly for any nail art design.

Zipper nail sticker water decals, Item No. 4915 in gold.

Day 24 - Rainbow nails

The theme for today is tissue paper or rainbow nails and since I can't find my tissue paper, I'll do rainbow. Sadly, I have not done rainbow nails since middle school and rainbow nail art has been on my nail art wishlist for awhile now.  So, here goes...

Shimmer Polish: Swatches & Review

I have for review today polishes from Shimmer Polish.  Shimmer Polish is an indie brand known for its fabulous glitter mixes.  Each polish is named after or inspired from the creator's close friends and family.  Each polish has a special significance to the creator, Cindy, you can read more about her personal philosophy here.

All swatches are not layered over any base color with no top coat.  Each polish is a fully opaque glitter polish.  All photos are taken in my lightbox.

Day 12 Drips or Matte

The theme for today is drips or matte. Since I suck at making drips, I chose a matte/suede polish today. I picked up some of the Layla Softouch effect polishes from a sale bin at a beauty supply place. They were half off.

Layla Softouch Effect 07 Queen Bordeaux is a deep dark burgundy that dries to a suede finish. It dries darker than what is in the bottle. I was expecting more of a rusty orange color judging from what's in the bottle. This went on with two easy coats and dried normally.  Overall, this color is a tad too dark for my tastes. This is more of a vampy Halloween color.  I haven't tried it with a top coat.  I wanted to wear it suede to see how it held up.

If you are interested, the Layla Softouch effect polishes are available at Fabuloustreet.com or Ninjapolish.com.

Day 9 - Abstract/Saran Wrap

The theme for today is either abstract or saran wrap.  I chose to try an abstract manicure.

I think this is abstract enough? The base is OPI Barre my Soul, a sheer pink.  It's a great base for any french manicure.  I then added a side swoop of Orly's Gumdrop and another side swoop of Sinful Color's Black on Black. I added slanted stripes and glitter stripe with my nail art stripers. I made the dots with my Mash dotting tools. This manicure is inspired from a tutorial I saw on Nails Magazine online.

FFF - Stained Glass Nails

Jilltastic Nail Design put together a 28-day nail challenge called Flip Flop February.  There's two themes to choose from one slightly easier than the other.  So, beginners can participate and not feel too intimidated.

The challenges.

The theme for today is Stained Glass/Accent.

I chose stained glass nail art as an accent.  I did not have the patience to do a whole mani as stained glass!

First I painted my ring finger nail white and stamped BM208 in black. There were some lines where the stamp did not reach so I extended it with my striper.  I filled in the spaces with colors from Color Club's Take Wing collection. The blue is Color Club's Sky High from the same collection.
