Breast Cancer Awareness manicure

Quick post today, this is my manicure for Breast Cancer Awareness month.

The pink base is OPI Sparrow me the Drama from the 2011 Pirates release which is one of my all time favorite pink polishes. It's very soft and elegant. The pink glitter is Urban Outfitter's Lollipop which I thought would be a close dupe to the OPI More than Glitter topcoat that was released in the BCA 2013 polish set. The stamping is BM-321 and is done with Sinful Shine Wisp. This is a very good opaque white for stamping about as opaque as the Konad special white.

My 2-cents!

We can paint our nails pink and buy all the pink ribbons for Breast Cancer Awareness but it's not worth anything if we aren't doing self breast exams!

Please work with your primary care doctor or gynecologist on how to perform a self breast exam.

Goodbye Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad is one of those shows that's inherently awesome. Great acting, great story line, great character development. Like all good things, it must come to an end. ::sad face:: Tonight is the series finale and I have no doubt that it will be epic.

Here's my manicure dedicated to one of the best works in television I've seen in a long time!

How I did it?

I started off with OPI's Don't Mess with OPI from the Texas collection which is the closest green that I had that matches the Breaking Bad logo. I then painted the "Br" and "Ba" with white acrylic paint which was rather difficult because the brand I have isn't really opaque. It took a few times to get the "Bs" just right.  Luckily, you can rub off acrylic paint with a bit of rubbing alcohol and it won't disturb your base coat.

The Heisenberg sketch is also painted with black acrylic paint. It took me three times to get it just right. The green swirls are done using the needle marbling technique. I used OPI's Did it on Them for the lime green.

If you haven't watched the show, seriously start watching!  Seasons 1 - 5 are available on Netflix streaming.  You won't be disappointed!

If you've been watching, how do you think it's all going to end?

Are you sad that it's over?

Born Pretty Store: Colorful Feather Nail Art Water Decals Stickers

My final review from Born Pretty Store are some lovely water decals the shape of feathers.  These water decals are beautifully detailed and come in a variety of colors to make a wide array of manicures.

Here's my sample manicure I did using the feather water decals:

Basic instructions on how to apply a water decal:
  1. Paint your base color and let dry.
  2. Trim out nail decal.
  3. Immerse in water until the backing is wet.
  4. Using wet fingers slide decal off backing and place onto your nail.
  5. Let dry.
  6. Seal with top coat.
Overall, water decals are very easy to work with. If you don't like the placement, you can move the decal around a little while it's still wet. With the feather stickers, you can paint any number of designs to create any sort of unique manicure. This pack comes with enough water decals to make several different manicures. Also, the water decals can be easily removed with nail polish remover.

Colorful Feather Nail Art Water Decals Stickers are available now and retail for $4.73 USD.

Born Pretty Store Holo: #7 Swatches and Review

I have for review today a holographic polish from Born Pretty Store.  Who doesn't love holographic polishes seriously?

Artificial Light

Indirect Sun

Direct Sun

Born Pretty Holo #7 is a light seafoam linear holo.  This was 3-coats and the color was still not opaque with a visible nail line.  This color might have benefited from layering over a similar color.  I did not have any issues with application or dry time.

Overall, if you are looking for some good linear holographic polishes definitely give these a try.  There are 12 colors all together in this collection with a wide-array of colors.  Born Pretty Store Holographic polishes retail for $5.59 (previously $12.88) for a mini sized bottle.

In Memory of Talia Joy

This past Tuesday the beauty community and the world lost one its brightest stars, Talia Joy Castellano.  In case you were unfamiliar, she was a Youtube makeup guru battling a rare form of cancer called neuroblastoma for over six years.  She later developed pre-leukemia and the cancer spread into her bones.

Her mantra was, "Makeup is my Wig" deciding to forgo wearing a wig and embracing the transformative power of makeup.  Her zest for life was unparalleled and she faced her prognosis with maturity and equanimity like no other.  She was able to accomplish so much in the short time she was here with us.

Today, nail bloggers have partnered together to post Mint Manis for Talia inspired by her last Instagram photo posted a few days before she passed.  She's wearing POP Nailglam Mint Magic.

This is my mani dedicated to Talia.

I wanted to do a mint mani but I also wanted to do a mani I know Talia would love.  I wanted to incorporate animal print as seen on some of her NOTD posts and a 3D bow.

It's honestly hard for me to write all of this.  I followed her story for quite some time.

Rest in peace sweetheart.  You were an inspiration to us all!

Today, is my birthday! Wahoo!

I going out of town and writing this ahead of time.  I don't have a birthday manicure to share just yet.

Overall, I want to thank everyone that continues to support and visit my little nail blog.

It's been a hectic past few months and I haven't been able to devote time to my blog like I want to.

Thanks again!

I hope to see you all soon!

The Darkside of the Moon

This weekend was the largest full moon of 2013 and what some experts have deemed "the Supermoon." Our friendly lunar satellite will reach the closest point on earth and will look slightly lighter and brighter. *Edit the Supermoon was this morning at 4AM PST, I missed it.  Oh well.

Here's some nail art dedicated to tonight's Supermoon!

Zoya Reswatch: Kieko + nail art

Last weekend, Zoya was offering a BOGO deal on most of their past summer collection releases as well as a few of their most popular colors. Looking at the list, I had most of the shades so I decided to re-swatch Kieko. Kieko is from their 2011 Summertime release. I voted it one of top my 10 colors for 2011 back in the early days of my blog.

Zoya Kieko a beautiful plum purple.

I added some nail art.

Actually, this is inspired from a manicure posted by Claire from Nuthin' but a Nail Thing, but she used a pink base with gold foil tips.  I used striping tape as a resist and sponged the purple onto the tips.  The purple metallic polish is Wet n Wild's Hog Quartz School.

I added star and regular rhinestones.  I would have done the rest with rhinestones but I didn't feel like trying to get them off my nails!  Star nail art is the best!

Bargain Bin Find: OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls

One of my favorite things to do is go on polish hunts and the nice things about polish hunts are bargain bins. If you're patient enough, you can find recent past collections for half off or more but you'll have to sort through endless bottles of crackle polishes! Seriously, who keeps making this stuff?

I picked up OPI My Scales Walls from last year's Spiderman release and I added some blue rhinestones.

I'm always looking for a good white creme that applies well to use for french tips or a base for nail art. OPI's My Boyfriend Scales Walls is an off-white with a hint of grey so it isn't so blaring white. It applied a little streaky at the first coat and was completely even within two coats. I added two coats of top coat to get the rhinestones to stick on. They were super stuck on and took forever to get remove!

What's some of your favorite bargain bin finds?

Zoya Irresistible Collection: Swatches & Review

I purchased the Zoya Irresistible collection through the Earth Day exchange.  It's a set of shimmery metallic polishes when I first saw the swatches on Facebook, I had to have them all!  The other summer collection sets include the Stunning collection which is a set of creams as well as a summer Pixie Dust set.

Born Pretty Store: False Eyelashes Chinese Style Paper-Cut

I have for review today some paper lashes from Born Pretty Store.  I'd say paper lashes first became popular around spring of last year and were worn by the two main characters in the popular Hunger Games movie.

Paper lashes pattern number #6, item no. # 5633.

Here's my eye look wearing the lashes:

Concealer: Makeup Forever Camouflage Cream Palette
Eyeshadow: Kleancolor Baked Shadow in Lime
Mascara: Covergirl Lash Blast Volume
Brows: Rimmel Brow pencil in sable brown

What I liked?
  • These lashes are great for cosplay or any costume look.
  • They were light weight and did not make my eyes water or feel funny.
  • The paper lashes can be easily removed.

What I didn't like?
  • The lashes are packaged with adhesive.  This makes them harder to get out of the packaging and they tore easily.
  • The thin paper is hard to manipulate onto your eye. I had to use tweezers.
  • The lashes do not come with eyelash adhesive.

Paper lashes pattern number #6, item no. # 5633 are available now and retail for $4.10 per pair.

Please use code EUL91 for 10% off on your next purchase!

More Sinful Colors

Some people love Sinful Colors polishes while others hate them! I love Sinful Colors, they cheap, affordable and widely available. They have a variety of colors in their core display and are always releasing seasonal collections. In my pre-polish hoarder days, my only polishes were Sinful Colors or Wet n Wild. I never bought high end polishes.

Here's some random swatches mainly from the recent Sugar Rush & Haute Rebel displays:

Mermaid nails

I purchased some polishes from H&M and one of them was this seafoam green duochrome called Lady Luck.  I bought it because I thought it would be a close dupe to one of the China Glaze duochromes, it's not.

New Sinful Colors: Sinful Shine

Recently, I saw a different kind of Sinful Colors display at Walgreens that caught my eye.  These were new and with fancy silver caps so for $3 I had to try a few.  Boy, I was not disappointed!

I picked up In the Limelight & Alfresco.

Born Pretty Store: Practice Finger

I have for review today from Born Pretty Store a plastic nail art practice finger. This is a great little tool for practicing different nail art techniques or if you want a display for your most recent nail art works for your clients.

Born Pretty Store: Mixed Metals Nail Art Roll Foils review

For review today is a nail art foil from Born Pretty Store. I've been waiting to try nail art foils for quite some time now but found start up kits to be rather expensive. Luckily, Born Pretty Store offers a variety of nail art foils at affordable prices.

Random Illamasqua swatches

Illamasqua is one of my favorite makeup brands. I love their dramatic themes and artistic press releases. Sadly, I don't have much of their products but what I do have I enjoy thoroughly. These are the swatches of the rest of my Illamasqua polishes that were previously unpublished.

Layla Softtouch swatches

I purchased and swatched these Layla Softtouch polishes awhile ago. I just never posted them. I found these in a half-off sale bin at a beauty supply store near my hair salon. I love half off sale bins. These Softtouch polishes dry to a semi-matte finish.

Jindie Nails: Candy Land Remix & Rave

When the indie polish craze was first getting popular last year, one of the biggest mixes I wanted to see was neon glitter! At the time, I did not know that such a thing existed! I then saw Jindie Nails' Rave and Candy Land Remix both of which had matte neon glitter! I had sworn off getting more indies but I had to have these two!
