What is nail striping tape?
Striping tape is a thin slightly adhesive tape that can be applied to the nail in any type of decorative pattern. Once applied, striping tape can be sealed with a top coat for lasting wear. Also, striping tape can be used to block off polish as a resist to create block, grid or patch work manicures.
My sample manicure:
The base color is Borghese Chroma and I placed the red striping tape in a plaid pattern to make it look like gift wrapped presents. I added rhinestones as an accent. This is one of the simpler ways to use striping tape. I did film a video tutorial on how to apply striping tape which can be viewed here.
Here's a patchwork manicure using striping tape as a resist:
The base is China Glaze's 2NITE and I used striping tape to block off the colors to paint the angular shapes. It worked a lot better than regular scotch tape and looks a lot cleaner than if I did this freehand. Whenever I use scotch tape or painter's tape, the polish leeches under and I can not get a clean line.
Here's some further examples of how to use striping tape:
Here I used alternating red and green striping tape to create of sort of Christmas design. This would look good as an accent nail.
Here's how to use striping tape to make a french tip with a rhinestone accent. This base color is Butter London's Snog.
Here's a way to use striping tape as a resist. I painted the base color with OPI's I Vant to be a Lonestar and pressed down the striping tape and layered Zoya's Ibiza over it. It leeched under a bit because I didn't press it down hard enough. The base color can be any color scheme you choose and the striping tape can be placed in any sort of pattern. I sponged Ibiza to get better coverage versus simply painting over it.
I really liked this set of striping tape. It's a very easy product to work with and obviously an easy way to make straight lines or any number of designs. The tape is slightly adhesive meaning that you can take if off your nail if you don't like how it's placed. I liked the variety of colors and enjoyed that there was a black and white in the set. I'd definitely recommend this set to anyone looking to make simple yet impressive nail art.
